A Beginner's Guide to Coloured Pencil

Here's a preview of what you can expect in the upcoming lessons.

Working with Coloured Pencil isn't all perfect. I'll walk you though some of the advantages and disadvantages to this medium, so you'll have a better understanding of what you can expect.

Some pencils won't stand up to the test of time, some will!

We'll have a quick look at the term and what it means for you.

There is a huge range of Coloured Pencils to choose from, and I know that can be daunting!

I'll explain the differences and the strengths of the pencils I've worked with in the past.

I'll go into how you build up the layers to create your finished piece.

One of the most useful techniques but it does come with it's own risks!

There are a few ways to blend Coloured Pencils. I'll demostrate them for you and explain how they work.

We’ll have a quick walk through my chosen supplies, colours, and the plan before getting started.

We’ll start getting some colour down and creating the values of the subject.

It might take a while but it’s a critical step towards a good artwork.

Once the whole piece is blocked in we’ll get out the Odourless Solvent and start blending!

There’s a few little techniques I use when I’m completing this stage, to keep everything clean and even.

This is when you step back and have a look at the piece at a whole. Then make the finishing touches.

No piece is perfect so here is my take on what to do when something goes wrong!
