A Beginner's Guide to Coloured Pencil

This is a preview of what you can expect in the upcoming lessons.

Everything has it’s pros and cons. I will walk you through some things to keep in mind about this medium.

Pencils are generally divided up into two categories, wax-based and oil-based. We will go through the differences between them, and where each one excels.

There is a huge range of Coloured Pencils to choose from, and I know that can be daunting! I will explain the strengths and weaknesses of the pencils I have worked with in the past.

I will demonstrate the layering techniques I use in every piece.

One of the most useful techniques but it does come with it's own risks!

There are a few ways to blend Coloured Pencils. I will demonstrate and explain how they work.

We will be going though everything before the pencil hits the paper.

We will start creating our values and building up texture. It might take a while, but it’s a critical step towards a good artwork.

Once the whole piece is mapped out, it’s time to blend!

Now we start cleaning up the details and values.

We step back, and look at the piece as a whole. Then, we add the finishing touches!

I have got some final tips, tricks and advice to share with you.
