Coloured Pencils

I’m using mostly my Faber-castell Polychromos and one Caran D’Ache Luminance, colours listed below.

Have a go with whatever pencils you have on hand. Though please keep in mind, the better the pencils you’re working with, the better the piece will be.

Grab out a few diferent shades of greens, greys, and browns.

Also a black and a white.

Values actually play a bigger part then colour when it comes to making a piece look realistic, so don’t worry too much!

Line Drawing

You can freehand or trace out your line drawing. Either way, I suggest using a graphite pencil for your outline, as it’s easier to erase.

Paper

I’m using my favourite paper for this piece, Arches Hot Pressed 300gsm Watercolour Paper.

Heavy weight paper is important when drawing with coloured pencil as it needs to be able to take lots of layers, especially when blending with odourless solvent.

Other Supplies

  • Odourless solvent for blending (don’t worry if you don’t have any, just skip that step and continue on)

  • Tombow Mono Zero Rectangle Eraser

  • 2 Hole metal sharpener

  • Brush for getting rid of bits of eraser
